Pounamu brooch II
I carved these simple cabochons from some wonderful "offcuts" (probably inanga from South Westland Field) that Buddy gave to me in my early years and carried them around until 2013 when we needed a gift for a lady before we left Toronto. Akira & I talked about it, and he took them away and came back with this stunning brooch a couple of weeks later. It suited her to a tee and she loved it! Thanks Akira!

Connemara marble cloak-pin
Whilst living in Ireland I was lucky enough to visit the Connemara area where the colours of the gorgeous landscape are reflected in the beautiful Pre-Cambian age Connemara Marble - green, grey, yellow, orange, brown & white. Naturally, about 50kg of this lovely material accompanied us back to Dublin for future use, some of which is still promised to my friend, Steve, who accompanied us.
This is a simple square cabochon in a (quite amateurish!) sterling silver setting, which I made whilst studying with Cormac Cuffe in 2009. The pin is set diagonally to great effect, and my wife uses it as a cloak pin. It could be a brooch though! |
