I recently had an email from a carver-friend, Doug Butler. He carves statues and table pieces made out of a variety of rocks, including those produced as by-product from the northern Ontario mines, Canadian serpentine and some of the beautiful Zimbabwean stones, etc. Those of you interested in seeing what he does can check his website - www.dougbutler.ca. He lives in Ontario and those of you knowing the winter’s there will understand that he has to carve indoors during the cold months! His problems were how to keep the dust and slurry confined to his workshop and then how to dispose of the slurry legally/without blocking his drains. He provided all the pictures. This is how Doug solved his slurry removal problem. It is a sensible and simple approach but probably isn’t the only way he could have done it. But it works for him and you need to be inventive when solving the problems you come up against as a carver! Good luck to you all!

AuthorOn this page I intend to add monthly updates on aspects of jade carving. I also plan to invite more experienced carvers to offer a "master-class" on a particular subject of their choice. With this I hope to enthuse both the novice and the expert in this ancient and beautiful art-form/craft. And comments are welcome! Archives
